This strategically located land lies between Iguazú National Park in Argentina and Iguaçu National Park in Brazil, and forms part of the wider Jaguar Austral Corridor Initiative. Protecting this important area will help improve connectivity between protected forests, safeguarding habitat for threatened species and strengthening one of the most biodiverse landscapes in South America.
Acres Saved

“Approximately 60% of the site consists of well-preserved forest with large Peroba trees that have remained unlogged for more than 80 years, while a further 25% is naturally regenerating. The forest provides important habitat connectivity between protected areas on either side of the Iguazu River and forms part of a wider landscape-scale conservation initiative for wildlife including jaguars.”

We have saved:
101 acres
Total reserve size:
405 acres
Biodiversity:
The Atlantic Forest is one of the most biodiverse ecosystems on Earth and is often compared to the Amazon for its richness of wildlife. It contains around 20,000 plant species, more than 2,000 vertebrates species and exceptionally high levels of endemism. The Rio Iguazú property supports at least 18 threatened species, including the Critically Endangered Paraná Pine (Araucaria angustifolia), Endangered Peroba Rosa (Aspidosperma polyneuron), and Endangered Black-fronted Piping Guan (Pipile jacutinga). The wider landscape is home to iconic species such as Jaguar, Lowland Tapir, White-lipped Peccary, Helmeted Woodpecker and Williams’ Side-neck Turtle.
Habitat type:
The reserve protects Atlantic Forest, one of the world’s most threatened biodiversity hotspots, stretching across Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay. Located within Argentina’s Misiones Forest, the property contains a mosaic of mature and regenerating forest.
Elevation:
Ranges from 150-250 meters a.s.l.
Location:
Located on the Andrésito Peninsula in Misiones Province, north-eastern Argentina, the reserve lies on the Argentine side of the Iguazu River between Iguazú National Park (Argentina) and Igauçu National Park (Brazil). The site forms part of Fundación Rewilding Argentina’s wider Jaguar Austral Corridor Initiative, which seeks to improve connectivity across the Atlantic Forst landscape.
